| A hormonal drug for treating infertility and impotence

Par Pharmaceutical Cos., a drug developer informed on Thursday
that the Food
and Drug Administration gave final approval for its abbreviated
new drug application for cabergoline, a drug used to treat
a hormone disorder that can cause infertility in women and
impotence
in men.
Cabergoline is the generic version of Pfizer's Dostinex, which is used to treat hyperprolactinemic disorders, one of root cause of infertility and impotence. Domestic sales of Dostinex exceed $80 million a year, according to Par. Woodcliff Lake, N.J.-based Par said it will begin shipping cabergoline tablets immediately as the company was granted tentative approval earlier this month, pending expiration of Pfizer's patent on Dec. 29, 2005.
