| Testicular cancer linked to male impotence
Thursday, December 8, 2005
A recent study suggests that confirmed infertile or impotent
men may have to consider getting screened for testicular cancer
as there is a rise in cases of testicular cancer in infertile
men. The study which linked testicular cancer to infertility
or impotence, published in the Journal of Urology revealed
that infertile men with abnormal semen analyses have 20 -
fold greater incidences of testicular cancer compared to the
general population.
Testicular cancer is rare and often curable when detected in its early stages. The study further warned that the patients and physicians should be aware of the fact that one of the causes of infertility or impotence could be cancer, particularly testicular cancer.
The study also revealed that testicular cancer is the most common type of cancer among men between the age of 15 and 35.
