The drug levitra is one of several new pharmaceutical drugs meant to help men struggling with impotency. It is the latest impotence pill that was introduced in the market sometime back after viagra.

It is available in the U.S. Market since august; 2003. Levitra is believed to be an enzyme-blocker that helps increase the blood flow to the penis. On an average, this orange pill can be effective for 4-6 hours. The manufacturers claim that levitra has a 70 percent higher success rate in patients with diseases such as diabetes or those who have undergone prostrate cancer surgery, these being the two common causes of erectile dysfunction. Levitra is an oral-prescription medication, which strictly should be used only on doctor's prescription.

Levitra works by inhibiting pde-5 (phosphodiesterase-5) in the penis and relaxing it. As the penis gets relaxed the blood flow to penis increases which results in enlargement of it thereby making it have an erection. Levitra can result in an erection only when, one is sexually stimulated and not without it.

Take levitra as your doctor prescribes. Levitra comes in different doses (2.5 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg). For most men, the recommended starting dose is 10 mg. Take levitra no more than once a day. Doses should be taken at least 24 hours apart. Some men can only take a low dose of levitra because of medical conditions or medicines they take. Your doctor will prescribe the dose that is right for you. If you are older than 65 or have liver problems, your doctor may start you on a lower dose of levitra. If you are taking certain other medicines your doctor may prescribe a lower starting dose and limit you to one dose of levitra in a 72-hour (3 days) period. Take 1 levitra tablet about 1 hour (60 minutes) before sexual activity. Some form of sexual stimulation is needed for an erection to happen with levitra. Levitra may be taken with or without meals. Do not change your dose of levitra without talking to your doctor. Your doctor may lower your dose or raise your dose, depending on how your body reacts to levitra. If you take too much levitra, call your doctor or emergency room right away.

The possible side effects of levitra are flushing, stuffy or runny nose, stomach upset, dizziness, headache, indigestion, blurred vision and inability to differential blue and green colors. Usually these side effects fade after few hours. A person with heart diseases, blood pressure, stroke, liver problem, kidney problems, stomach ulcers, bleeding problem, deformed penis shape, anemia or leukemia and other ED drugs should not take this drug.
